Hornets end Lakers' 15-game home streak (AP)

Somebody had to play defense in Tuesday night's Hornets-Lakers game. The Hornets finally did in the fourth quarter, and it proved decisive. David West scored 15 of his 40 points in the final period to outscore Los Angeles by himself, and New Orleans beat Los Angeles 116-105 to snap the Lakers' 15-game home winning streak.


BC coach meets with Jets, could lose job (AP)

Boston College's Jeff Jagodzinski met with New York Jets officials Tuesday to discuss their head coaching vacancy -- an interview that was expected to cost him his job with the Eagles. Jagodzinski, who became BC's coach in 2007, was told by athletic director Gene DeFilippo that he would be fired if he met with the NFL team.

Saints confirm RB Bush had knee surgery (AP)

The New Orleans Saints have confirmed that running back Reggie Bush had surgery on his left knee, and will require months of rehabilitation. However, Bush is expected to be ready for minicamp in June. The surgery in December entailed drilling small holes in the bone around the knee joint in order to generate soft tissue that mimics the padding effect of cartilage.

NHL reviewing Senators F Ruutu's bite (AP)

The NHL is reviewing whether to discipline Ottawa Senators forward Jarkko Ruutu for biting Buffalo Sabres forward Andrew Peters through his gloved thumb during a game. NHL spokesman Frank Brown says in an e-mail Wednesday that the league reviews everything and added if a suspension is warranted it would be announced before the Senators game at Boston on Thursday.

Injured Davydenko to miss Aussie Open (AP)

Nikolay Davydenko will miss the Australian Open because of a heel injury that bothered him last season and has caused "unbearable" pain the past two weeks. The fifth-ranked Russian also pulled out of the Chennai Open, where he was seeded first and was to play Lukas Dlouhy of Czech Republic in the second round.

Seve plans to run 2010 Royal Trophy team (AP)

Seve Ballesteros says he plans to return next year to his role as captain of Europe's Royal Trophy team. A statement from the Spanish golfing great was read at a news conference Wednesday, two days before this year's competition begins between teams from Europe and Asia. 'Melo out 3 weeks with broken hand (AP)

Carmelo Anthony didn't care for the color of the new removable splint he was sporting on his broken right hand, preferring it to be Denver Nuggets blue over bright red. Then again, a splint of any color sure beats surgery. The Nuggets All-Star guard will miss at least three weeks after breaking a bone in his shooting hand in a victory over the Indiana Pacers on Monday night.


Bobcats surprise stumbling Celtics in OT (AP)

After 19 straight wins and an NBA record 27-2 start, the Boston Celtics have lost that swagger. The lockdown defense and the poise are missing, too, as teams line up to get a shot at the defending champions. On Tuesday, it was the lowly Charlotte Bobcats, as Raymond Felton scored 25 points and rookie D.J.


Tulsa routs Ball St. in soggy GMAC Bowl (AP)

Tulsa raced through the rain to another GMAC Bowl win and a couple more records, too. Tarrion Adams rushed for 207 yards and three touchdowns, David Johnson passed for three scores and Damaris Johnson did a little bit of everything in the Golden Hurricane's 45-13 GMAC Bowl victory over No. 23 Ball State on a soggy Tuesday night.
